Commissioned in 1973, the U 18 submarine boasts an impressive achievement: 192,842 nautical miles, meticulously documented by a former crew member. This astonishing figure equates to approximately nine circumnavigations of the globe! After its decommissioning, Sinn Spezialuhren acquired material from the outer hull of this submarine, using it to create the heart of a unique, limited-edition diving watch. Limited to 1,000 pieces, this watch features a case crafted from exceptionally robust, seawater-resistant steel, sourced directly from the U 18. Thus, the submarine became not only the namesake for the U18 model but also an exclusive source of material – a timeless symbol of an unforgettable era in the history of the German submarine fleet.

Anniversary: 20 Years of Submarine Steel Diving Watches

Sinn Spezialuhren shares a special, long-standing relationship with submarines. For two decades, the company has utilized submarine steel in the production of its diving watches – convinced of its exceptional durability and properties. The special steel developed by ThyssenKrupp for the outer hulls of Type 206 submarines and modern, non-atomic Type 212 units has formed the basis of the entire U series since 2005. The steel is supplied as a semi-finished product with appropriate dimensions and structural properties – free from any traces of wear.

The U18 model stands out in one unique aspect: its base material originates from a real submarine that served in the navy for decades – and this is precisely what gives it its unique value! Thanks to professional, precise finishing by Sächsische Uhrentechnologie GmbH Glashütte (SUG) from Saxony, the material meets rigorous technical requirements without losing its authenticity. The result? A diving watch born from history, which brings the soul of maritime heritage directly to the wrist. This exceptional narrative is complemented by an included steel block from the original U 18, with an engraved marking.

High-Gloss Dial – An Eye-Catcher

Anti-reflective sapphire crystal ensures exceptional clarity and a perfect view of the high-gloss dial, whose color scheme evokes mesmerizing, oceanic tones.
The dark blue-green base color symbolizes the esoteric depth of the open sea at approximately 30 meters, referencing the operational range of the U 18 submarine, which could dive up to 100 meters.

Stylized air bubbles symbolize rising effervescence and emphasize the three-dimensional effect of the dial, shimmering with metallic shades of blue and green. This diversity gives the dial a unique character and attracts attention with its stereoscopic effect.

In commemoration of the power of submarines, the dial features the number of nautical miles traveled and the U 18 type designation. The case back is adorned with the silhouette of a Type 206 submarine, consistent with the historical prototype. The U18 model has been tested according to European diving equipment standards and certified by an independent institute, confirming its reliability and durability.
