The submarine U 18, commissioned in 1973, boasts an impressive achievement: 192,842 nautical miles, meticulously documented by a former crew member. This astounding number equals approximately nine trips around the world! After decommissioning, Sinn Spezialuhren acquired material from the outer hull of this submarine, using it to create the heart of a unique, limited edition diving watch. Limited to 1,000 pieces, this watch features a case made from exceptionally durable, seawater-resistant steel, sourced directly from U 18. Thus, the submarine became not only the namesake of the U18 model but also an exclusive material source – a timeless symbol of an unforgettable era in German submarine fleet history.

Anniversary: 20 Years of Diving Watches Made from Submarine Steel

Sinn Spezialuhren shares a special, long-standing relationship with submarines. For two decades, the company has been using submarine steel to manufacture its diving watches – convinced of its exceptional durability and properties. The special steel developed by ThyssenKrupp for the outer hulls of Type 206 submarines and modern, non-nuclear Type 212 units has been the foundation of the entire U series since 2005. The steel is supplied as a semi-finished product with appropriate dimensions and structural properties – free from any signs of wear.

The U18 model stands out in one exceptional aspect: the base material comes from a real submarine that served in the navy for decades – and that’s what gives it its unique value! Thanks to professional, precise finishing by Sächsische Uhrentechnologie GmbH Glashütte (SUG) from Saxony, the material meets rigorous technical requirements while maintaining its authenticity. The result? A diving watch born from history that brings the spirit of maritime heritage directly to your wrist. This exceptional narrative is complemented by an included steel block from the original U 18, with engraved markings.

High-gloss Dial – Catches the Eye

Anti-reflective sapphire crystal ensures exceptional clarity and perfect view of the high-gloss dial, whose colors reflect hypnotic oceanic tones.
The dark blue-green base color symbolizes the esoteric depth of the open sea at about 30 meters, referring to the operational range of submarine U 18, which could dive to 100 meters.

Stylized air bubbles symbolize rising bubbles and emphasize the three-dimensional effect of the dial, shimmering with metallic shades of blue and green. This diversity gives the dial a unique character and attracts attention with its stereoscopic effect.

To commemorate the submarine’s power, the dial features the number of nautical miles traveled and the U 18 type designation. The caseback is decorated with the silhouette of the Type 206 submarine, true to the historical original. The U18 model has been tested according to European diving equipment standards and certified by an independent institute, confirming its reliability and durability.
