MB&F × L’Epée 1839 “T-Rex” — a unique limited-edition table clock
MB&F, in collaboration with Swiss master clockmaker L’Epée 1839, presents T-Rex — an extraordinary table clock that combines mechanical finesse with artistic expression. It is one of the most original designs in contemporary haute horlogerie, created as the 11th collaboration between these two brands and inspired by the power and aesthetics of the prehistoric tyrannosaur.
Design and Concept
“T-Rex” is more than a clock — it is a sculpture that captures attention at first glance. The mechanism and time display “hang” between two realistically rendered tyrannosaur legs, crafted based on scans of actual T-Rex fossils. The dial is made from hand-blown red Murano glass.
Mechanics and Functions
At the heart of the clock is a hand-wound L’Epée 1839 movement — entirely designed and produced in-house. The clock features:
hour and minute indications,
an 8-day power reserve,
a balance frequency of 2.5 Hz (18,000 vibrations/hour),
138 components and 17 jewels.
A special double-sided key, used at the back and front of the case, is provided for winding the mechanism and setting the time. The set also includes an instruction manual and the original MB&F transport box.
Materials and Craftsmanship
The clock measures approximately 26.5 cm in height and weighs about 2 kg. The case is crafted from stainless steel, palladium-plated brass, and bronze, hand-finished with a combination of polishing, satin-finishing, and sandblasting. The Murano dial adds artistic depth to the piece, while the exquisite finishes highlight the high quality of craftsmanship.
