The 1978 Rolex Submariner Date ref. 1680 is one of the most significant references in the model’s history – the first generation Submariner equipped with a date function. Examples from this period are distinguished by a ‘White Dial’ with white lettering and tritium indexes, which develop a characteristic patina over the years. The watch is equipped with an automatic caliber 1570, an acrylic ‘Top Hat’ crystal with a Cyclops lens, and a rotating bezel with an aluminum insert.
